Tim Walz recently visited a Runza restaurant, a local delicacy that he insisted JD Vance would call a Hot Pocket, in Nebraska, sparking several reactions on social media. The Democratic VP nominee’s supporters were quick to compare his ‘Runza’ moment to Vance’s ‘awkward’ donut shop visit. “The choice is clear,” one person said on X, platform formerly known as Twitter.
Walz’s visit came days after JD Vance visited a donut shop in Georgia. The Republican VP nominee thanked a Holt’s Sweet Shop employee, to which she responded: “I don’t want to be on film.” The Ohio Senator then turned to his team, saying: “She doesn’t wanna be on film, guys, so just cut her out of anything.”
He then said: “I’m JD Vance, I’m running for vice president, good to see you.” Her one-word response was ‘OK’. The ‘awkward’ interaction became a talking point on social media. Several users trolled Vance.
Now, with Tim Walz’s video surfacing, voters are comparing the Democratic running mate’s visit to that of Vance. The Minnesota governor was seen chatting around with employees at the Runza restaurant.
“Contrast this with JD Vance’s donut stop yesterday 😂😂😂” one person reacted on the Elon Musk-led platform.
“JD Vance can’t handle entering a donut shop. Meanwhile Tim Walz at a Runza…,” another person added.
“Walz went into Runza and rocked the place with joy and laughter. So Vance tried…something involving a food place? 👀,” a third one said.
At a rally speech, well before his visit, Walz had spoken about Vance not knowing what a Runza is. “”Do you think JD Vance knows one damn thing about Nebraska? You think he’s ever had a runza? That guy would call it a Hot Pocket. You know it. Every one of you in here know it. A damn Hot Pocket,” the Harris VP pick had said.
