‘Trump Mocks Supporters Off Camera, Calls Them Basement Dwellers’: Stephanie Grisham At DNC

On Day 2 of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Stephanie Grisham, the former press secretary for Donald Trump, took the stage to reflect on her shift from supporting Trump to endorsing Kamala Harris. Grisham criticized Trump for his alleged lack of morals and claimed he mocks his supporters off camera, referring to them as “basement dwellers.” She revealed that after the January 6 Capitol riots, she urged Melania Trump to tweet about peaceful protests, but when Melania refused, Grisham decided to step down.

“I wasn’t just a Trump supporter, I was a true believe. I was one of his closest advisers,” Grisham said. “Behind closed doors, Trump mocks his supporters. He calls him basement dwellers. He has no empathy, no morals and no fidelity to the truth.”

Grisham recounted, “On January 6, I asked Melania if we could at least Tweet that, while peaceful protest is the right of every American, there’s no place for lawlessness or violence, she replied with one word, ‘No.'”

Grisham was the first senior staffer in the Trump Administration to resign after the United States Capitol Building riots.

“I love my country more than my party,” Grisham added. “Kamala Harris tells the truth. She respects the American people and she has my vote.”

Having served as White House Press Secretary from July 2019 to April 2020, Grisham is among the few Republicans speaking at the DNC. Ahead of her speech, the 48-year-old urged GOP voters to join her in ensuring Trump never returns to the White House.

“I never thought I’d be speaking at a Democratic convention,” Grisham said in a statement. “But, after seeing firsthand who Donald Trump really is, and the threat he poses to our country, I feel very strongly about speaking out.”
