With the UK general election fast-approaching, voters are once again reminded of the crucial deadlines and procedures. Should the need for it arise, such as in case of unforeseen circumstances, voters can opt for the emergency proxy vote. This allows all those eligible to participate in the upcoming electoral process.

Deadlines and Eligibility

The standard proxy application deadline is 5pm on Wednesday, 26 June. For those who cannot vote in person after this, they may opt for an emergency proxy vote. However, this may only be viable should an unforeseen circumstance arise after the normal proxy deadline. Emergency proxy applications can be submitted up until 5pm on polling day.

Valid Reasons for Emergency Proxy Votes

Eligible reasons for applying for an emergency proxy vote include:

  1. Medical Emergency: If a sudden medical issue arises that prevents you from voting in person.
  2. Work-Related Absence: If you have an unexpected work commitment that takes you away from your local polling station.
  3. Loss or Damage of Photo ID: If your photo ID required for voting is lost, stolen, destroyed, or damaged. This is after the application deadline for a Voter Authority Certificate.
