Why Noida High-Rise Residents Are Opposing Paid Parking Outside Societies

Noida: High-rise society residents have expressed opposition to the paid parking facilities arranged by the Noida authority through contractors outside their housing societies. They have appealed to the administration to suspend these contracts, citing that they are the main reason for traffic jams and congestion in residential areas.

During a meeting with the Noida Authority Chief Executive Officer M Lokesh, a delegation led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mandal President Pankaj Jha submitted a written complaint and demanded the cancellation of parking contracts in residential sectors.

Lokesh M has directed Officer on Special Duty Mahendra Prasad to submit a report on this matter, the delegation later informed reporters.

Despite attempts to contact him via calls and messages for comment on the issue, Lokesh M did not respond.

In March, the authority finalised contractors for surface parking at 35 sectors across three clusters, implementing a revised fee structure. This initiative aimed to alleviate concerns from residents regarding insufficient parking space within society premises.

Cluster 1 was assigned to a private fire management company named Infra Solutions, while Cluster 2 was handed over to Milestone Security. Cluster 3 was entrusted to the private firm Ayush Parking Services.

Rajiva Singh, President of the Noida Federation of Apartment Owners Association, which serves as an umbrella body for residents’ welfare associations, highlighted that parked vehicles outside societies, along with street vendors, were the primary causes of traffic congestion and jams.

“Issuing a parking ticket will never solve the issue of jams. Proper planning is missing. We need visitor parking and more parking space for residents at large high-rise societies,” he said, as per the Hindustan Times report.

Anil Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police at Noida Traffic Police, acknowledged that surface parking exacerbated traffic congestion. He emphasised that finding a more feasible and acceptable solution rested with the Noida Authority.

“Ideally, parking outside societies on the road is not allowed. High-rises should facilitate parking space as per its capacity. But when we try to issue a fine, residents raise the issue of how they lack enough parking space on their premises and how builders won’t let them park multiple vehicles inside,” Yadav said.
